On Thursday September 17, 2015 four lucky eighth graders got to visit the Mahoning County Main Courthouse in Downtown Youngstown to see the opening ceremony of National Hispanic Heritage Month. The event featured a flag ceremony representing 22 Hispanic countries as well as musical performances. Opening remarks were made by Mr. William Blake, Director of the YSU office of Student Diversity Programs and special guests YSU President Mr. Jim Tressel and Youngstown Mayor Mr. McNally were in attendance and gave short speeches. The students got to take photos with them and speak to them for a brief moment. This opportunity gave students a chance to see how our Community celebrates what we learn in class. The event was co-sponsored by the YSU Hispanic Heritage Planning Committee and the YSU Office of Student Diversity Programs.
